Welcome to my campaign website for the 2015 General Election
West Dorset has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Britain -- less than 1%. My aim is to keep it that way by doing everything I can to help local businesses, from farming to tourism to high tech manufacturing, and by supporting ‘Big Society’ initiatives like Jobs Clubs.
I have been involved in securing major programmes to repair potholes, upgrade the A303 and improve flood defences. But our rural bus services are precarious, and I will work to develop imaginative solutions, so that our bus routes don’t die.
Dorset County Hospital does a fantastic job, but we need to integrate acute care, primary care, community hospitals and adult social care to meet the challenge of an ageing population. And we need a national funding formula to even up funding for our schools.
For 18 years, I have been taking up the cases brought to me by individual constituents who have problems dealing with bureaucracies. I shall continue to do that through my weekly surgeries and my continuous availability
West Dorset now has one of the first Neighbourhood Plans in Britain to have been completed and approved by referendum, and we have 5 more in the making. I will continue to be a strong advocate of these Plans, which give local people real power and help to build community spirit.
My support for Neighbourhood Plans is just one part of my effort to help preserve balanced communities in West Dorset. I believe in a living, breathing, working countryside, flourishing seaside and market towns and socially cohesive villages.
